The European Parliament asked the European Union to strengthen sanctions against Russian oil

The European Parliament is preparing to adopt a resolution on the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which proposes expanding the list of restrictions on the “shadow fleet” to complicate the export of Russian oil and liquefied natural gas. The document was published on the organization’s website on November 11.

“The European Parliament calls on the European Union and Member States to step up their efforts to curb sanctions evasion and circumvention and to take concrete measures to ensure maritime security and prevent environmental threats in European waters, in particular in the Baltic Sea” . – informed in the project.

Additionally, as part of the proposed sanctions, European politicians called on countries controlling the straits to introduce restrictions on the movement of ships carrying Russian fuel. In addition, there is an intention to include the owners of large ships and other persons and organizations associated with ships on the sanctions lists.

The European Parliament calls for the development of administrative mechanisms to control oil transport, the use of “satellites and drones” to monitor tankers carrying Russian oil and permission to carry out inspections of “suspicious vessels” at sea.

They plan to adopt the resolution at the end of November. It will have a recommendatory nature.
