The European Parliament condemned countries that advocate the normalisation of relations with Afghanistan

The EU Parliament condemned countries that support the normalisation of relations with the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” (IEA, as the Taliban call the country)*). This is stated in the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, reports Ariana News.

The EP also criticised the new law on the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice recently announced by the IEA government, demanding new sanctions against the emirate. The resolution states:

“MEPs want the EU to support the recognition of gender apartheid as a crime against humanity and call for the de facto authorities in Afghanistan to be held accountable through an International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation and the creation of a UN Independent Investigative Mechanism.”

The resolution was adopted by 565 votes in favour, 8 against and 43 abstentions.

The resolution also calls on the EU and donor states to increase humanitarian assistance and funding for Afghan civil society.

In this regard, a representative of the IEA Zabihullah Mujahid He said that the introduction of sanctions and pressure on the IEA government, as in the past, will not bring results, and the IEA authorities aim for positive interaction with all countries of the world.

Earlier, the UN Security Council also expressed serious concern over the law on promoting virtue and preventing vice. However, Kabul said the law was adopted on the basis of Islamic Sharia and any opposition to it would be criminal.
