The European PP is ready to support Teresa Ribera if she agrees to resign if she is sued by DANA

The European People’s Party wants Teresa Ribera to commit to resigning if she is sued by the management of DANA, in order to allow her to become vice-president of the European Commission. The condition, put forward by El Mundo, represents a certain departure from the position defended by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who redoubled the offensive to demand another candidate from Pedro Sánchez, despite the support that the president of the community government herself brought to Ribera. Ursula von der Leyen.

The Spanish PP held Ribera responsible for the management of the Valencia disaster during its examination in the European Parliament, the toughest and most tense of the 26 that took place in the parliamentary committees to analyze the new candidates for commissioners Europeans. And the Spanish delegation suggested the possible accusation of the third vice-president, which is indicated in a complaint filed by Vox and an association.

“History and perhaps also the judges will judge her for her inaction and her incompetence,” said the spokesperson for the Spanish PP, Dolors Montserrat, dryly, before asking her the question: “Do you agree to resign if you find yourself legally involved so as not to bring discredit to Ursula von der Leyen and the College of Commissioners? The PP of Feijóo thus underlined that the central government and the vice-president of Ecological Transition will have judicial responsibilities for the management of DANA.

And now Manfred Weber’s group takes up this challenge, but not completely, because it raises the procedural moment in which it places this condition: from imputation to prosecution, that is to say that there is a oral trial with attribution of a crime after the investigation. Furthermore, this conflicts with the strategy of Feijóo’s PP after the Ribera review, which demanded a new Spanish name for the College of Commissioners.

The rejection expressed by the people towards the Spanish vice-president, added to Von der Leyen’s decision to elevate the Italian extreme right to this rank, caused an unprecedented political crisis with an uncertain outcome. The Socialists accuse the EPP of having broken the agreement concluded in July to support the German’s second term. And what they assure in the group led by Iratxe García is that Ribera is a condition sine qua non condition if they want their support for the entire college of commissioners, this will be voted on in principle at the end of November.
