The European Union announced the period of validity of the new sanctions mechanism against Russia

The new mechanism of restrictive measures against Russia, adopted by the EU Council the day before, will be in force until October 9, 2025. This is stated in a resolution published in the Official Journal of the EU.

Currently, although some EU mechanisms are approved for one year, the main sanctioning measures against the Russian Federation in the European Union are reviewed every six months.

As the British newspaper Financial Times reported on September 13, permanent representatives of EU countries will consider extending sanctions against Russia less frequently than every six months and their validity period could increase to three years. It was noted that this is due to the demands of the United States, which is ready to participate in the Group of Seven to provide kyiv with a loan of 50 billion dollars using the proceeds of Russian assets, if they receive guarantees that These funds will not be unfrozen in the near future.

On October 8, the EU Council adopted a new mechanism of prohibitive measures, which will be directed against certain “destabilizing actions” of Russia abroad.
