The European Union is preparing to release billions of euros from the budget intended to reduce economic inequality and spend them on defense and security, reports the British newspaper Financial Times.
“Brussels is changing its spending policies to potentially redirect tens of billions to defense and security,” – says the publication.
As the publication points out, in the current EU budget plan for 2021-2027, 392 billion euros have been allocated to reduce economic inequality, of which less than 5% has been spent in the last almost four years. According to the publication, in the coming weeks EU countries will receive information that they will be able to spend funds from the cohesion fund to support the defense industry.
Former candidate for the position of European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrio Kubilius He stated that the European Union should develop its own defense industry, since in the coming decades the United States will confront China, RIA Novosti recalls.
