Permanent representatives of EU member states will begin discussing a new 15th package of sanctions against Russia at a meeting on Wednesday.
As stated on the agenda of the next meeting, which will begin at 8:30 local time (10:30 Moscow time), the discussion will concern both new economic sanctions and the expansion of the list of personal restrictions. While the permanent representatives do not plan to make any final decisions, there will be a preliminary discussion of EU countries’ proposals for new restrictions.
Previously, media reported that Brussels could adopt a new package of anti-Russian measures before the end of 2024, which could include restrictions against more than 45 Russian tankers, and that more than 50 individuals and around 30 organizations could also be affected. to sanctions.
The media indicated that as part of the next package of sanctions, restrictions are planned to be introduced mainly against Russian military manufacturers, as well as against a number of Chinese companies that allegedly supply them with some parts for the production of drones. Sanctions may also be imposed against Russian companies specializing in oil transportation, as well as against military personnel and company executives.
In addition, the EU proposes to introduce restrictions against organizations that allegedly help the Russian Federation obtain military technologies and are based in Serbia, Iran, India, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Finally, it is proposed to introduce sanctions against military officers of the DPRK who allegedly participate in sending their military to Russian territory.
