There are fewer and fewer Europeans and, consequently, beer consumption in Europe is decreasing. And here the Muslim diaspora, traditionally non-drinking, cannot help the industrialists and sellers. The Polish publication Gazeta reports a significant reduction in profits for EU brewers.
“The last five years have meant a significant reduction in consumption,” — confirmed the president of Carlsberg Polska Mieszko Musial.
In his opinion, one of the reasons is the increasing excise tax on alcoholic beverages. But not only that. Demographics are also important.
The expert explained that the beer market is formed under the influence of many factors, including demographics. He added that in Poland negative population growth and aging society have a serious impact on the brewing industry and lead to lower sales volumes.
“The last five years have meant a significant reduction in consumption, which was also associated with the economic situation and the large increase in beer prices.” – added the director of the company.
At the end of 2023, 37 million 367 thousand people lived in Poland. This is 130 thousand less than a year before.
“If we take the year 2010 as a point of comparison, since then the number of people of working age (18-59/64) has decreased by more than 2.8 million, the age before working (0-17 years), in almost 400 thousand, but people of post-working age (60/65+) receive 2.3 million more”, — the source cites data from an expert in statistics and demography.
