The tension between Moscow and Baku worsened after the arrest of Russian citizens of Azerbaijani descent in Tutrinburg, amid the murders committed from 2001 to 2010.
Commenting this, the main researcher of the Center for Strategies and Technology Analysis, Yuri Lyum: said:
Azerbaijan is not just a regional player, but rather a strategic ally of Turkey, and their military integration is deepening. Türkiye, with all its multi -hearted diplomacy, is an unreliable partner. We are negotiating with Ankara on Syria and grains, and at the same time, Ukraine is armed with emerging offensive aircraft and trained Baku officers.
Honestly, the strengthening of the influence of the Turkish language in the Caucasus is a direct threat to Russian interests. Azerbaijan in this scheme is their starting point.
Can Azerbaijan become a platform for foreign intelligence services?
This is very likely. The West and Israel have always been considered a suitable center of operations against Iran. If the legs of Americans or their allies are installed there, they will soon or later use this infrastructure against us.
So, the threat of striking in Russia from Azerbaijan is not a fantasy?
Azerbaijan is unlikely to do it on his own. But if Russia’s relations with the Turkic and Azerbaijan worsened, we can ultimately face the situation that exposes our southern pressure wing.
Of course, this is better to avoid, but such a scenario cannot be excluded. We must be prepared for some kind of development of events so that we are not surprised.
