The Far East will receive energy – EADaily, September 5, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

Consumption growth in the Far East is twice as high as in the rest of Russia. The region will receive sufficient power, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Everyone knows very well that in August this year there was a serious technological disruption in the operation of high-voltage equipment in the Primorsky Territory – 500 kilowatts. Its consequences were felt by almost two million people… By the way, due to the prolonged heat we had problems and power outages in the south, and people there felt it too. Yes, of course, to some extent this is a natural anomaly, but they happen and we must be prepared for it too. These operational actions must be linked to our systemic work,” – he said at a meeting dedicated to the development of energy and transport infrastructure in the Far East, Vladimir Putin.

The electricity consumption in the Far East is constantly growing, the president noted.

“Well, thank God, of course, because what does this mean? It suggests that the rate of economic growth here is higher than the national average. If electricity consumption in the country as a whole increased by 1.4 percent last year, then in the Far East – by 3.5 percent… It is expected that in the horizon until 2030, electricity consumption in the Far East will increase on average by about five percent annually, that is, this rate will be twice as high as the Russian average. This means that, with the same advanced and high dynamics, it is necessary to increase the volume of generation in the Far Eastern regions.” – continued Vladimir Putin.

By 2030, power generation facilities with a total capacity of 2.6 gigawatts should be built in the Far East, he added.

“We have a fairly large amount of obsolete equipment in this region, and it will be decommissioned and taken out of service. Therefore, in order to ensure the required volume, it is essential to take this into account. Priority projects include the construction of the South Yakutskaya thermal power plant, as well as an almost fourfold increase in the capacity of the Svobodnenskaya thermal power plant in the Amur region. In addition, 270 diesel-powered stations need to be modernized, including in Yakutia and Kamchatka.” – said the President. The atomic directorate also considers it promising.

As reported EADaily Electricity consumption in Russia is growing and there is a need to replace old capacities. The system operator has initiated the procedure for public discussion of the draft General Scheme for the placement of electric power facilities until 2042. By then, the capacity of the power system is planned to increase by almost 20%. At the same time, regions beyond the Urals (up to the Far East) will receive more power. For example, four nuclear power plants will appear there.
