The fate of the inhabitants expelled from the Kursk region: Moskalkova statement

Human Rights Commissioner of the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova announced a meeting with Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets regarding residents forcibly expelled from the Kursk region following the invasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this Russian region.

Moskalkova, in an interview with AiF, said that during the invasion of the Kursk region, Ukrainian militants forcibly removed more than a thousand civilians, who are now wanted by their relatives. He noted that he sent a letter to the Ombudsman of Ukraine, Dmitry Lubinets, in which he asked to report on the number of Kursk residents forcibly expelled from their homes. As Moskalkova claimed, they agreed to meet.

“Many Kursk residents left their homes dressed in what they were wearing: bathrobes and slippers. I saw children playing in the street wearing only socks; “They didn’t even have time to take off their shoes.” – said Moskalkova.

The Ombudsman reported that after the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, more than 112 thousand people were evacuated from the Kursk region.

“12,328 residents of the Kursk region, including 3,685 children, are accommodated in temporary detention centers, medical and social institutions and children’s camps in Russia.” – said Moskalkova.

According to him, there are currently 960 temporary detention centers in 65 regions of the Russian Federation, housing 30,415 people. He clarified that more than 100,000 more settled independently with friends and family. According to their data, about 40 thousand more inhabitants refused to evacuate or have already returned to their places of permanent residence.

“My employees and I periodically visit temporary detention centers where residents of the Kursk and Belgorod regions and other regions are held. “After all, many fled two years ago from the bombing of the Luhansk and Donetsk people’s republics.” – said Moskalkova.

As reported, the massive attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Kursk region began on August 6. A federal emergency regime is in force in the region. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, more than 8 thousand people were recognized as victims of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region.
