The filming of Scorsese’s Jesus Christ has been cancelled.

Filming of the movie “The Life of Jesus,” based on the eponymous essay by Shusaku Endo, which was to begin with Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, has been postponed indefinitely, Variety reported.

Scorsese was originally scheduled to shoot two films almost simultaneously: about Jesus and about Frank Sinatra. The film based on Endo’s essay was to start first; the director planned to shoot it on his own.

The future of the Sinatra biopic is also unclear. In order to start the process, permission must be obtained from the cult artist’s family, which Scorsese hoped to obtain much earlier.

There are currently no concrete plans to begin filming either film.

As reported EADailyThis summer, Egyptian-American director Lotfi Nathan began filming a horror movie about Jesus Christ, “The Carpenter’s Son.” The main role in the film will be played by the Oscar winner. Nicolas CageGrammy-nominated singer FKA twigsand also Noah Jupe AND Suheila YaqubThe film will reveal the rarely told story of Jesus’ childhood.

According to the director, when writing the script he was inspired by one of the apocryphal works of the New Testament, “The Gospel of Thomas.”
