Yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Spatial Planning reduced the fire that broke out at 3:32 p.m. in the municipality of Cabizuela (Ávila) to level 1, thanks to the work of the 23 media deployed on the scene, including personnel and police vehicles to fight the flames. It should be remembered that the Commission raised this fire to level 2 at 4:40 p.m., due to a possible risk to the population and property, with the Ávila firefighters deployed to the area to “defend farms and buildings”.
The territorial delegate of the Authority in Ávila, José Francisco Hernández, explained that the reduction in the level of danger occurred thanks to “the improvement observed, as a result of the extinction and control tasks carried out by a very extensive operation, consisting of seven that means flights and approximately 65 people.
The Council representative thanked the cooperation of the mayors of the area and the volunteers for “an exceptional work so that in a very short space of time we were able to control the fire.” A fire that reached level 2 due to its proximity, about a kilometer awayIin the municipality of Pedro-Rodríguez.
“Fortunately, we have stabilized the fire and at this point the municipality is out of danger,” he said, specifying that the fire is “absolutely stabilized in its perimeter, approximately 100 hectares, 50 of which are wooded,” reports Ical.
For his part, the director of extinction, Pedro José Pérez, does not know the cause of the fire at the moment, although he does know it.They suspect it might be “intentional.”
Regarding the extinguishing efforts, the wind has been one of the main obstacles in the face of the flames, as it has been “very variable” as well as the high temperatures. He added that the flames have mainly affected a “fairly old” pine forest, as well as crops.
