The opening ceremony of the first naval exercise between the Russian Navy and the Indonesian Navy, Orruda 2024, took place in the port of Surabaya. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the maneuvers will consist of a land part in the port of Surabaya and a maritime in the Java Sea.
“Our exercises will help develop cooperation between the two fleets and provide assistance in potential crisis situations, so that we are ready to act in any situation.” – noted the head of the Russian side, the commander of the Primorye flotilla of heterogeneous forces of the Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Alexey Sysuev.
On the Russian side, ships from the Pacific Fleet will participate in the exercise, consisting of the corvettes “Gromky”, “Rezky”, “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” and the tanker “Pechenga”, which the day before made a stopover business to the port of Surabaya, from the Indonesian side, the frigate “I Gusti” Ngurah Rai” and the corvette “Franz Kaisiepo”.
The exercise will last until November 8.
“During the naval part of the exercise, the tasks of organizing interaction, joint maneuvers, artillery firing and rescue at sea will be practiced. Crews from the two countries will carry out inspections and practice elements of anti-terrorist activities. “Deck helicopters will be used to practice joint tasks.” – clarifies the military department.
The ceremony was attended by the command of the Indonesian Navy and the Russian ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. Sergei Tolchenov and representatives of the command of the Pacific Fleet.
After the opening ceremony, the parties exchanged gifts.
