Global coffee prices increased by 8.4% in September compared to the previous month and by 69.1% compared to September 2023, according to the latest data released by the World Coffee Organization (ICO, for its acronym in English). Its index averages 258.9 US cents (235.78 euro cents) per pound produced, which is equivalent to approximately 453 grams.
The organization explained that prices were put under pressure by a high demanddue to return to work in September in the northern hemisphere, and by climatic conditions and the logistical disruptions linked to factors such as tensions in the Middle East and the longshoremen’s strike in the United States, which has now ended.
The quote from Colombian sweet coffee rose 5.9% monthly, to 279.27 cents (254.31 cents), and that of other soft drinks increased 6.5%, to 278.52 cents (253.61 cents).
He natural coffee from Brazil became more expensive by 6.2% in June, settling at 257.24 cents per pound (234.21 cents), according to the ICO, amid rising coffee futures prices on the London stock exchanges (+13.8%) and New York (+6%).
In August, global exports of green coffee beans totaled 9.91 million 60-kilo bags, representing an increase of 8.8% compared to the same month of 2023.

The organization reported that sales of Brazilian natural coffee decreased by 0.2% per year, to 3.03 million bags, and that the Robusta type increased by 14.3%, with a total of 3.84 million bags.
