France’s National Finance Prosecutor’s Office has demanded that Culture Minister Rachida Dati and former Renault-Nissan alliance head Carlos Ghosn be tried on corruption charges, BFMTV reports.
The investigation against Dati has been ongoing since 2021. She is accused of corruption and influence peddling. The Financial Prosecutor’s Office believes that in 2009-2011 she received 900,000 euros from Renault, whose interests she lobbied as a member of the European Parliament (2009-2019).
“The National Finance Prosecutor’s Office has requested the criminal prosecution of the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, and the former director of the Renault-Nissan automobile group, Carlos Ghosn, in particular on charges of corruption and influence peddling.” – says the channel’s message.
In July, Franceinfo radio reported that a Paris appeals court had rejected Dati’s request to dismiss the case against him due to the statute of limitations.
Dati became the first politician of immigrant origin to hold such a high position in the French government. He was born into a dysfunctional Algerian-Moroccan family with 11 children. Two of his brothers served prison sentences for drug trafficking.
