The Marcel-Duchamp Prize has been awarded to the French visual artist, sculptor and photographer Gaëlle Choisne, 39, announced on Monday, October 14, the organizers, the Association for the International Diffusion of French Art (ADIAF) and the Center Pompidou. Endowed with 35,000 euros, this prestigious prize has been awarded every year since 2000 to a contemporary artist. It constitutes a springboard and can be awarded in all plastic and visual fields (installation, video, painting, photography, sculpture, etc.), promoting new artistic forms.
Born in 1985 in Cherbourg, “from a Haitian mother and a Breton father”Gaelle Choisne “addresses contemporary themes of catastrophe, resource exploitation and vestiges of colonialism in opulent installations that combine esoteric Creole traditions, myths and popular cultures”requires a press release. Gaëlle Choisne has exhibited individually on numerous occasions in France and abroad, in the United States, Germany and Italy. She was the winner of the 2021 Aware Award, which has recognized the work of women artists since 2016.
