The French Parliament sounded the alarm over the supply of cheap sugar from Ukraine

The supply of cheap sugar from Ukraine threatens serious negative consequences for the French economy, says French parliamentarian Jordan Guitton.

As Lenta.ru writes, he shared his concerns on this issue in a special address to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of France. Annie Geneva.

In it, on behalf of the General Confederation of Sugar Beet Producers (CGB) of Champagne-Burgundy, the deputy warned about the consequences of the war in Ukraine for beet production.

“The level of beet imports from Ukraine increased from 20,000 tons to 400,000 tons in 2022-2023, and then increased to 700,000 tons in 2023, causing a 30% drop in sugar prices in the European Union. “This price drop directly affects French beets.” – Gitton sounds the alarm.

It states that the European Union does not protect the French beet industry in any way, allowing the import of Ukrainian beets that do not meet the standards established for French producers of this product.

The author of the message asks the minister if her department intends to protect French beet producers as early as 2024, “after more than two years of inaction.”

As one of the protective measures, the deputy proposes to introduce for Ukrainian products the same production standards that apply to French ones.

Previously EADaily reported that in the Grand Est region of France, Ukrainian refugees began receiving letters from local authorities demanding they leave social housing.
