The French are ready to change their place of residence due to climate change.
Oku.Az BFMTV reports this with reference to the study by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
According to the annual climate survey, 97% of the country’s inhabitants said that they will have to adapt their lifestyle to climate change and 56% consider that this will be a priority for the country in the coming years.
The majority of respondents (80%) believe that adaptation to climate change can create additional jobs and stimulate the economy. 88% of the country’s inhabitants are convinced that immediate investments will avoid higher long-term costs.
39% of French residents are willing to move to a less climate vulnerable location, but close to where they currently live. In this way they want to protect themselves from floods or forest fires. 28% of respondents are willing to move to a colder region or country.
According to the study, 80% of respondents had experienced at least one extreme weather event in the past five years, including extreme heat (56%), drought (39%), and severe thunderstorms or hail (31%).
