Almost every aspect of the housing crisis that pushed thousands of people to demonstrate this Sunday in the capital was reflected in the demonstrators’ banners, from the funniest to the most demanding.
Many of them referred to the proposal of Isabel Rodríguez, Minister of Housing, to request “solidarity” from owners when it comes to lowering housing prices. “Solidarity does not lower the rent”, said a banner, while a large inflatable fork indicated “Minister: Here, we are the great ones in solidarity” and another demonstrator replied on his sign: “I do not trust Shut up.”
The platform for renting and buying and selling apartments Idealista is “imperialist”, the “leading portal in conquering neighborhoods”, Airbnb’s new motto is “tourism first” — the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, defended something similar — , the real estate company Tecnocasa is “Tecnoestafa Group”.
