The future of the post-war Gaza Strip: UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed said that the UAE will not participate in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the war without the creation of an independent Palestinian state. In a post on Platform X (formerly Twitter), he stressed that the country will not support further development of the conflict in Gaza unless the conditions for the creation of a state for the Palestinians are met.

In May, bin Zayed had already expressed his position on the issue, rejecting suggestions by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the UAE could take on a role in governing Gaza after the war. He categorically refused to participate in any plan that he believed could contribute to maintaining the Israeli presence in Gaza.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that the Palestinian Authority (PA) has prepared a draft resolution that will be put to a vote at the UN General Assembly in the coming weeks. The document aims to weaken the Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria and includes a number of strict measures that Palestine believes will help advance the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Key points of the resolution include ending arms supplies to Israel, the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from the territories of Judea and Samaria within six months, and ending trade with Israel in the context of settlements. It also proposes evacuating Israeli settlements and transferring control of these lands to the Palestinian Authority. An important part of the document is the imposition of sanctions against Israeli officials, such as freezing their assets and banning them from entering other countries.

Israel is already preparing to actively oppose this initiative and is seeking support from Western countries. Although UN General Assembly resolutions are not binding, they often receive broad international support, especially among countries critical of Israel’s policies in the region.
