The Generalitat Valenciana has allowed the facilities of the Feria Valencia to be used as morgue “immediately” for those who died at DANA. In this way, the bodies of the victims can be preserved and delivered to the funeral directors.
A unit of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and the management of Feria Valencia coordinated this Thursday afternoon the establishment of a device in the exhibition center facilities which would allow the location and preservation of bodies of people who died in the DANA. indicated by the Generalitat in a press release.
Initially, the possibility of also creating a small room to do autopsiesbut the Generalitat has clarified that, “for the moment, this option will not be used”, and these will continue to be carried out at the Legal Medical Institute.
The Feria Valencia facilities have been prepared since Thursday evening to be used “immediately” as a morgue.
97 autopsies already carried out
The Minister of Justice and the Interior, Salomé Pradas, put the number of bodies transferred to the forensic anatomical center at 108, 97 autopsied and 14 people identified, at 7:15 p.m. this Thursday. Pradas recognized the “difficult work” of forensic experts and appreciated the collaboration with the Ministry of Justice to receive forensic experts from all over Spain.
Likewise, Pradas stressed that they were assisting the families of the victims “with the greatest sensitivity» and they have psychologists from the Generalitat, victim support offices and the Red Cross, who also collaborate.
