The Generalitat of Catalonia has sent a message to the population of the four regions of Terres de l’Ebre affected by the rains to avoid unnecessary travel and restrict mobility as much as possible for the next three hours. Although the precipitation is not expected to be as violent as that in Valencia, it can be locally intense.
This is a warning provided for in the flood plan of the Generalitat, which remains in the alert phase. The only concern of Emergency officials is limited to the Ebro Delta: water has accumulated in the mountainous area of Els Ports and some beaches have been flooded. This Thursday it continues to rain heavily in the regions of Terra Alta, Ribera d’Ebre, Baix Ebre and Monstià, as well as in several neighboring regions of Castelló.
The heaviest precipitation of the Catalan rainy episode occurs in the regions of Terres de l’Ebre and Camp de Tarragona. The storm left more than 100 liters in the Ports of Tortosa-Beseit Natural Park this Wednesday, according to data collected by the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC). The waters accumulated this Thursday could equal these records in the Ports.
This Thursday, precipitation in the region will be intense and water is expected to accumulate. Due to heavy rain, trains have not been running between Amposta and Tortosa since the morning. On the roads, traffic is slow on the AP-7 motorway between Aldea and Ulldecona and there are closures on several regional roads, such as the TP-3311 between Ulldecona and Sènia or the TV-3341 between Caseres and Horta of Sant Joan. .
The Civil Protection of the Generalitat maintains the alert of the Inuncat flood plan due to intense rains, especially in Terres de l’Ebre. After a quiet night, firefighters received 12 incident reports this Thursday morning, most of them due to minor flood damage, such as the partial rupture of the roof of a school in Tortosa.
Classes were suspended mid-morning on Thursday in all three regions. According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC), in Montsià, Baix Ebre and Terra Alta, the showers are heavy today and locally they are pouring with high intensity and in addition violent weather phenomena are not excluded. In addition, the intensity of the rains will also affect Baix Camp and Priorat, where 40 liters per square meter can be reached in 30 minutes.
