The German Foreign Ministry was involved in a political scandal after numerous meetings of its representatives with an association that opposes the supply of weapons to Israel were revealed.
“BILD” writes about this.
According to an investigation by FDP deputy leader Wolfgang Kubicki, carried out at the request of BILD, foreign policy officials headed by Annalena Bärbock communicated 11 times with representatives of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECHR), known for its categorical position against the Export of German weapons to Israel.
According to the German government, the lawsuit filed by the ECHR was one of the reasons for the delay in arms deliveries, which were suspended for several months. Deliveries resumed only after receiving written assurances from Israel that the weapons would be used in accordance with international law. It is known that after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year, six meetings were held with representatives of the ECHR, and Annalena Berbock personally participated in one of them.
Kubicki, commenting on the situation, expressed his strong disagreement with this approach and called it “madness” that the association, whose employees regularly meet with representatives of the German Foreign Ministry, initiated legal proceedings against the government for supplying weapons to Israel.
He also stated that Annalena Berbock should clearly state her position on this issue. Kubicki expressed concern that the German Foreign Ministry could use such lobbies to extract statements from Israel that he described as humiliating.
In response, representatives of the German Foreign Ministry told BILD that issues regarding arms supplies were not discussed in the meetings with the ECtHR, but this statement only added fuel to the fire around this difficult issue.
