The government affirms that the working groups are working and postpones Mazón’s request for explanations for DANA

The government considers that the position of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazonis increasingly unsustainable due to its management of the crisis caused by DANA. He understands that his explanations contain contradictions and lies, but maintains that he will not demand explanations and accountability until the effects of the disaster are completely mitigated.

When the situation begins to normalize, the PSOE will consider requesting Mazón’s resignation, according to the executive.

At the same time, government sources add that at present, the five working groups launched on Monday are functioning effectively, with the participation of ministers and advisors of the Generalitat. This is what several members of the government explain.

Concretely, the groups refer to Health, with the minister Monique Garcia; Infrastructure, with the minister Oscar Puente; Social services and housing, with ministers Pablo Bustinduy and Isabel Rodriguez; Employment and Business, with the second vice-president, Yolanda Diazand the Minister of the Economy, Carlos Corps, and the Interior, with the Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska.

Concrete measures have come from all these groups which, again according to this version, are already effective on the ground and with the collaboration between the two administrations.

In fact, Moncloa understands that it no longer makes sense to continue raising the debate on the advisability of declaring an emergency situation. Because formally, command is maintained by the Generalitatbut these five working groups act effectively in each of the areas.

The government maintains in private the harsh criticism directed at Mazón for understanding that he had not heeded the warnings and that he ended up issuing the alert on cell phones after 8 p.m., which prevented avoid the activity of many people, especially those who were already on the roads when the tragedy began.

EMU deployment

Moncloa’s order is to avoid public confrontation, but to oppose the versions disseminated by the Generalitat Valenciana which They attribute responsibility to AEMET and the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar. According to the government, there is enough data to reject this version and maintain that it was sufficiently alerted by these two organizations.

For example, Moncloa rejects Mazón’s version according to which his intervention at midday, assuring that around 6 p.m. everything would be finished, was based on the words of the AEMET spokesperson and the government delegate. In reality, both assured that at that time the alert had ended because it had to be reviewed, but without saying that the DANA was dissipating.

He also explains that there were up to three calls from the government delegate to advise responsible for alerting you to the situation and therefore sees inexplicable that the alert to citizens was only given at 8:00 p.m. Even more so if organizations like the University of Valencia and the Provincial Deputation asked their workers a few hours before not to go to work this afternoon.

The Government also reiterates that Mazón opposed the action of the UME throughout the Valencian Community and that he resisted the request for widespread intervention by Army units, despite numerous requests from the Government .

At the same time, Moncloa ensures that the urgent measures approved Tuesday in the Council of Ministers to mitigate the effects of DANA are implemented as planned.
