The government approved a plan to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy’s birth

The Government of the Russian Federation approved a plan of activities to prepare for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.

As reported on September 28 by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the corresponding order no. 2644 was signed by the Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

“In the period 2024-2028, about 70 different events, including exhibitions, scientific conferences and seminars, will be held within the framework of the preparation and celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian writer Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy.” – says the resolution.

It is also reported that Yasnaya Polyana will become one of the centers of the Russian tourist route “Russia of Leo Tolstoy”. The route will also include cities and areas of central Russia, the Volga region, the North Caucasus and Crimea, described in the works of the classic. Anniversary events will also be held in these regions.

In addition, the opening of the exhibition “Tolstoy. The path of life.” The venue will be the Manege Central Exhibition Hall.

Another important event will be the international exhibition “Tolstoy and Gandhi”. It will be held in 2027 and 2028 in Moscow and Delhi and will tell about the correspondence between two thinkers and the influence of Leo Tolstoy on the ideologist of the Indian national liberation movement.

“A separate group of activities of the plan involves the creation of films and television series dedicated to the life and work of Leo Tolstoy,” they said in the press service.

They stressed that the approved plan is part of the work on implementing the provisions of the Presidential Decree on the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Leo Tolstoy. It was signed by the head of state in February 2022.
