The Government approves two projects in the Torreparedones Archaeological Park in Baena

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Spanish Government has approved, within the framework of the call for projects gknowledge generation 2023, two projects in which the archaeological site of Torreparedonesin Baena, lasting four years.

As reported by the Baena town hall, one of the projects is entitled “The amphitheater in the public architecture of Corduba, Ategua and Torreparedones, and its main researcher is the professor and professor of Archeology, Angel Ventura Villanueva, from the Department of Art History, Archeology and Music of the University of Cordoba (UCO).

The case of the amphitheater of Torreparedones, known and partially excavated in recent years, is a special case because it is located in private landthe study will therefore be carried out on the basis of the results of the excavations carried out.

Being a project coordinated with the universities of Murcia, Tarragona (Rovira i Virgili) and the Institute of Archeology of Mérida, the results will be compared to those obtained in other capitals such as Mérida, Tarragona and Cartagenain order to observe the particularities of each of them.

The second project is entitled “Recovering the medieval production. Experimental archeology and reproduction of recipes from the Hispanic Middle Ages, and its main researcher is the professor and professor of medieval history. Ricardo Córdoba de la Llaveof the Department of Antiquity Sciences and Middle Ages of the UCO.

Recipes

The project deepens the lines of research followed by the HUM-128 Meridies group in recent years. Continuity will be given to the work of research, transcription and study, medieval manuscripts technical in the field of production (8th to 15th centuries), but the fundamental objective is the recovery of productions from the medieval period with the reproduction of the content of the recipes.

This recovery will be carried out in two ways. The first, through the practice of experimental archaeology. To this end, the project proposes the creation of a Experimental Archeology Campus in the Torreparedones Archaeological Park.

The second, collaboration with independents and companies through the signing of agreements where reproduction will be based both on the scientific knowledge of the group as well as in the working methods of companies, in order to recover products that could be useful to 21st century society.

The results obtained in both directions, in the form of materials and products, will be analyzed using techniques of physicochemical analysis to evaluate their assets and determine their nature, in particular to ensure the guarantees required in the event that they could have an outlet on the market.
