The government closed the Great Russian Encyclopedia project

The government of the Russian Federation has decided to stop financing the project to create the Great Russian Encyclopedia (BRE).

The project management complained to journalists that since the end of 2023, funds were no longer allocated for the operation of the site with encyclopedia articles.

In addition, over the previous 22 years, 35 volumes were published, containing up to 100 thousand articles. Since 2019, the maintenance of the encyclopedia portal has been financed from the budget. The latest annual estimate of the BDT amounts to 1.1 billion rubles.

It is known that all materials on the portal will be transferred to the Internet encyclopedia “Ruviki” in order to “strengthen its competitive advantages.”

However, employees of the current project demand payment of salary debts; To this end, they even organized pickets in the center of Moscow.

The government explains that the debts arose this year “due to inappropriate actions by the administration to adapt expenses to the financing provided.”

However, the Cabinet of Ministers undertook to pay off salary debts from the Russian Reserve Fund.

Let us remember that in February the Government received instructions to create the BDT in electronic format. As the rector of Moscow State University said Victor SadovnichyEncyclopedia volumes can be accessed on a flash drive.

As reported EADailyIn March, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Anton Gorelkin said that Wikipedia could be blocked in Russia.
