The central government on Thursday approved sending the army and more troops into the country. the Valencian Community to help against DANA after asking the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón. As LaSexta learned, 500 soldiers from the army will join the work teams, to which will also be added those from the UME, the Civil Guard and the National Police, among others.
Of this total, 300 will be ground soldiers, 100 Air and 100 Navy. “They have all the resources of the State”said Thursday the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, during his press conference after the meeting of the crisis committee chaired by Pedro Sánchez in La Moncloa.
“We make available all the resources of the Army and the EMU with, for example, teams of engineers, civil works and also human resources and infrastructure to open roads, municipal and highways and everything that means connectivity”, said the minister. Likewise, the Executive will send 500 additional soldiers from the Military Emergency Unit which will be added to the 1,200 already sent in the first days to the Valencian Community by DANA.
“We are at the expense of what they are asking of us,” Torres said. The regional leader had this Thursday at the beginning of the afternoon at the Ministry of Defense the incorporation of the Army and the available troops of “land, sea and air” for the emergency operation which allowed Valencia to strengthen logistics and distribution of aid to the population affected by the strong storm.
