The government studies the installation of an emergency reception center for migrants at Ciudad Real airport

The government is “evaluating the possibility” of opening an Emergency Reception and Orientation Center (CAED) for migrants at the Ciudad Real airport facilities, a private and disused facility. This was confirmed at elDiario.es Castile-La Mancha sources from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.

For their part, sources from the Castilian-La Mancha executive, from the PSOE, described the situation as “atrocious”, regretting the way in which the news was known. They claim that this was communicated through a telephone call to the head of the Ministry of Social Protection, Bárbara García Torijano.

In addition, they do not agree with the location chosen to welcome the migrants. “Is it better to have a barracks in an airport than to treat these human beings with dignity in the residential resources available to the government throughout Spain, including Castile-La Mancha? », ask the same sources from the Executive of Castile-La Mancha?

Ciudad Real airport, “one more” among those planned

Concerning the “potential” reception center, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration affirms, as confirmed by this media, that the use given to the airport installation is currently “marginal, for some private flights and this with the initiative”. it would be a temporary center to take care of the reception of people arriving on the coasts and coming from the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and other arrival points on the peninsula such as Murcia, Almería or Alicante.

To this end, the ministry carries out the relevant studies and analyzes to conclude on the “definitive relevance” of the project. Once finalized, this suitability will be confirmed along with the main characteristics of the center if it is “definitely considered viable”. The ministerial sources consulted add that this locality, like “many others” on the Iberian Peninsula, is under study. The objective, they add, is to “relieve tensions on the islands”.

They also explain that the Secretary of State has already spoken with the councilor of Castile-La Mancha to “explain the procedure and the situation, within the framework of dialogue and constant means of collaboration”.

This media has contacted Ciudad Real airport to find out its assessment on the issue, without receiving a response for the moment.

The mayor of Ciudad Real speaks of a “concentration camp”

For his part, the mayor of Ciudad Real, Francisco Cañizares of the PP, expressed in a press release his “rejection” of the establishment of a “concentration camp for immigrants” at Ciudad Real airport, before knowing project details. They wanted to demonstrate their “total rejection” and regretted that the local administration had not been involved.
