The Government, the Commission and the Town Hall propose to Bimbo to work on a solution which “guarantees the maintenance of employment” in Valladolid

THE “unity” of institutions in “rejection” with “purity”the closure of Bimbo from its factory in Valladolid shown from the beginning by the City Hall, the Junta de Castilla y León and the Central Government, took this Friday a further step with the presentation of an institutional proposal in which, in addition to opposing this objective, they offer to the company the creation of a working group to achieve an industrial solution “guaranteeing the maintenance of employment”.

A proposal that comes after the virtual meeting held on Thursday between representatives of the three administrations and managers of the multinational, who maintained their position that “the decision has been made” and involves the closure of the factory in the industrial zone of San Cristóbal on the horizon. set for this purpose between the end of 2024 and February 2025.

Thus, the proposal, collected by Ical, is signed by the Secretary of State for Industry, Rebeca Torró; the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, María González Corral; and the councilor of the capital, Jesús Julio Carnero. inside They ask the company to “review the closure decision” of the Valladolid factory and “reconsider different options to increase the production of said factory”. Furthermore, they express that the three institutions “are willing to study the different lines of support available for investment and financing through their public frameworks to stimulate industrial activity.

Additionally, it seeks to identify possible industrial solutions in the form of investors who can continue their industrial activity of the factory, maintaining the current level of employment -166 direct and 40 through subcontractors-, as well as seeking potential buyers for activities similar to those currently carried out by the Grupo factory Bimbo, all with the guarantee of a current job. However, other industrial solutions involving the maintenance of industrial activity in the factory are considered viable.

For the work of identifying and searching for industrial solutions, the signatory administrations will make their structures and means available for the purposes set out in this agreement. Furthermore, while these solutions are being sought, the activity of the factory will continue, even if during the negotiation of an industrial agreement, workers and the company can enter into whatever labor agreements it wants, they note in the document.

On this same subject, the president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, in addition to expressing “all our support” to workers and emphasizing opposition to the closure, underlined the importance of this unity. “I believe that this position of institutional unity has forced the company to sit down to negotiate”, because, as declared on Wednesday during the first official meeting with the workers, in front of the administrations, Bimbo emphasized that its projects in Valladolid only go through the fence.
