The government will lose 11 billion in public spending if it abandons the deficit demanded by the Junts to the autonomies

Although the Government continues to work on the draft General State Budget for 2025, its processing is slowed downThe Executive has decided to withdraw from Congress its proposal for a deficit trajectory for public administrations due to the lack of parliamentary support, especially that of the Junts. The main thing is that the Catalan independentists demand greater spending capacity, through the deficit, for the autonomous communities.

The government is now considering what measures to take. As EL ESPAÑOL-Invertia has learned, Moncloa opens the door to increasing the deficit capacity of the autonomous communitiesWhat is not clear is whether he is willing to reach the limits demanded by Junts. Especially because it would mean fly approximately 11 billion euros in public expenditure planned for the central administration (in addition to the State and Social Security).

The Catalan independence party, which is pushing all parliamentary negotiations with the PSOE and Sumar to the end, demands that the autonomous communities have, at least, a third of the deficit capacity (which implies broadening its public spending horizons) planned for 2025.

The Ministry of Finance has put a deficit target of 2.5% of GDP for next year. This will allow, according to the estimates of this newspaper, approximately 37.458 million euros of additional expenditure.

In the tax path removed from the treatment, Central Administration appreciate 2.4 points deficit and the autonomous communities only a tenth.

Junts’ claim would be an important feedback on this subject tortilla taxThe pro-independence party demands that the regions can have a third of the planned deficit to be able to increase its spending. This represents approximately 12.486 million euros.

If this claim were to be given up, the spending capacity of the central administration (i.e. the Government) would be diminished.

With the tax limits as they are currently set, The Executive would have nearly 36 billion euros of expenditure thanks to the deficit, equivalent to 2.4% of the GDP..

But if the demands of the inhabitants of Puigdemont are met, The central administration could hope, at most, for a deficit of around 25 billion euros. That is 11 billion less than the Ministry of Finance had planned to expand the spending ceiling.

It is worth remembering that, for the moment, the government is not considering changing the deficit targets set by the corrections made last week by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which have led to an improvement in economic growth in recent years.

The Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) do not see things that way. The union estimates that the spending ceiling should add 5.160 million more by 2025, after updates from the INE.

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports and government spokesperson, Pilar Alegría.

Back on the fiscal track, the government insists that the proposal presented represents an improvement over the current one, which would require autonomous communities and local entities in 2025 to achieve a surplus of 0.1% of GDP.

In this sense, Pilar Alegría, spokesperson for the minister, affirmed this Tuesday that with the government’s proposal The spending capacity of regions and municipalities is improved by around 12 billion euros.

In fact, during the press conference that followed the Council of Ministers, the minister’s spokesman accused the PP of having a “irresponsible” attitude towards the budgetary trajectory.

In this sense, he argued that the PP already had a seat in the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (CPFF) through its autonomous communities, which abstained.Nor I voted against” he noted.

Responsibility

“We ask the PP to exercise its responsibilities. The regional presidents of the PP know that These 12 billion euros benefit the citizens they serve” he stressed.

In anticipation of the negotiations that will have to take place in the coming days and weeks to address the budgetary trajectory, Alegría did not specify whether she would sit down to discuss with the PP. But yes, with Junts. Will the government end up approving new deficit targets to satisfy Junts and open the door to new general state budgets? The answer, in a few weeks.
