The greatest grandmaster of the century, Magnus Carlsen, has called for not lifting sanctions against Russia and Belarus

Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, who won the title of best male grandmaster of the century, has called for not lifting all sanctions against the Russian and Belarusian chess federations.

About this Oku.Az Reports with reference to Russian media.

According to reports, the 16th world champion said this at the ceremony where the award was given to the best chess player since the creation of FIDE in 1924.

The award was presented by Russian FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich.

Magnus Carlsen made this statement in the context of the federation’s statements on the possible return of Russia and Belarus to the competition.

“Of course, I am happy to receive this award, but I think that Garry Kasparov’s career was better than mine. I am sure that he would take the opportunity to advise the chess federations of Russia and Belarus not to return. I would also like to make such a statement,” said Carlsen.
