The International Criminal Court (ICC) has launched an investigation into the organization’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, over allegations of sexual assault. This was reported by Reuters on November 8, citing a source. The document that served as the basis for the investigation states that Khan must leave his position while the investigation is carried out.
“The prosecutor must resign immediately to pave the way for an independent investigation.” – noted in the document.
It is clarified that Khan is accused of sexual harassment, although he himself denies it. The prosecutor also contacted his own internal watchdog to launch an internal investigation against those who brought charges.
The agency added that, according to the source, the investigation against Khan was agreed on November 7 at a meeting of the core group of the court’s governing body.
