We’re going to let you in on a “secret”: you don’t have to go to the coast to enjoy a good swim, the interior of the Iberian Peninsula It is home to a multitude of green spaces and natural pools to cool off in the summer.
In fact, more and more people are turning to domestic tourism to enjoy nature and all it has to offer; the interior of Spain has some of the best alternatives to bathe in the middle of lush nature and clean waters.
One of them is located in the province of Avilamore precisely in the municipality of San Juan de Gredos. In its capital, Navacepeda of Tormesit is possible to find one of the most remarkable natural spaces in the entire province. It is none other than what is called Well of the Walls.
Located in the deepest part of the Gredos MountainsThe enclave consists of a natural swimming pool that draws water from the river bed Barbellido River and a medieval bridge that crosses the pool from one end to the other. In addition, the space is flanked by two imposing rock walls that, over the years, have shaped the pond, shaping it thanks to the erosion produced by the water current and the wind.
Thus, the enclave has been distinguished for decades not only by its unique water basin – practically frozen – but also by the qualities that surround it, defining it not only as an adventure space but as one of the main strongholds of the province of Ávila.
The medieval bridge
One of the biggest attractions of space is the medieval bridge, that crosses the well from one end to the other. Arriving there, it is possible to appreciate from another point of view the imposing walls that delimit the enclave, as well as the rest of the imposing Gredos Mountains.
In addition, from the heights of the bridge, it is possible to contemplate the current of the Barbellido Riverwho later joins the Tormes River. Although it is not known for sure, it is believed that the bridge was built for herders and traders to move animals from northern Gredos to the Port of Candeledato then head towards the southern plateau of the peninsula.
There is a legend that at the bottom of the water there are the “beautiful“, beings who go out to comb their hair at the edge of the lake with their golden combs on the morning of San Juan.

Although the Pozo de las Paredes is one of the most striking enclaves in the region, the place offers many other experiences, such as routes where you can enjoy local flora and fauna of the region.

How to get to the Puits des Murs
There are two ways to access the enclave, via the highway Gredos Platformand for Navacepeda of Tormes. In the case of the first, you must arrive at the municipality of Hawthorn holesfrom there, continue on the Plateforme road until kilometer 7.
