“We will continue to fight anti-Semitism by all means,” promises Michel Barnier
“We will not let anything pass” AND “We will continue to fight anti-Semitism by all means”Prime Minister Michel Barnier promised Monday night during a ceremony in Paris honoring the victims of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. “You can count on the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister (…), to all members of the government to protect our compatriots of the Jewish faith”he added.
The mention of the head of state, Emmanuel Macron, caused boos in some rows of the public. Some in the room shouted “arms” after the French president called on Saturday for a halt to arms shipments to Israel. After tense exchanges between the French president and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Michel Barnier once again assured that “The security of the State of Israel is not and will never be negotiable”and that this country was located “in self-defense”.
“October 7 [2023]Early in the morning, life gave way to anguish, crying, horror, slaughter, emptiness and also despair. “We will never forget it.”declared the Prime Minister, who received the families of the two French hostages in the afternoon. The head of government also mentioned “The situation of Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank” WHO ” also crashes [la] awareness “and deplored the “victims”, including civilians, “on both sides of the border with Lebanon”. He repeated that France would support “any initiative that allows, in strict respect for the existence and security of Israel (…), move towards a two-state solution, which is the key to lasting peace”.
Against anti-Semitism, Michel Barnier proposed reinforcing “mobilized resources” and advances in “the detection of these acts” entrusting this task to the Guardian of the Seals, Didier Migaud, and his Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, present at the ceremony, as well as fifteen Ministers, and also encouraging “the education of students in [les] schools, through constant dialogue with associations”.
