Valencia wakes up for the tenth time after the worst DANA of the 21st century with the feeling of having lost a lot and, in some cases, lost everything. The city is no longer the same and the areas affected by the passage of the flood are cleaned with the help of neighbors, volunteers and workers as families begin to say goodbye to the deadly victims of the worst tragedy in memory in the region. One of them is Jorge Diaz Mullora loving basketball player, married with two children, who everyone who knew him will remember for his “indelible smile”.
For Jorge, 42, the waterspout, like so many others, caught him in the car on his way home. He was driving his Ford Focus when the tsunami hit him by surprise as he tried to escape via the CV-424 exit of the A-3, near the town of Bunyol. For several days, family, friends and officers from the Military Emergency Unit searched the area exhaustively until they finally found his lifeless body.
Last Thursday the wake took place at the Municipal Morgue of Valencia and this Friday the last goodbye will be said to a person that no one remembers without smiling and without stopping helping anyone who asked for help. Your team, the Turís Basketball Clubreleased a heartfelt statement to express their grief over the loss of a historic player and hardwood sports lover.
“It is impossible to think that this would hit us so closely. It was an exhausting few days searching for our companion and friend, but the bad news was confirmed. Jorge leaves us, this boy who always entered the pavilion greeting everyone with a big smile, ready to help and accompanied by his wife and children, to whom we send a big hug and all the encouragement in the world. A great person who we will always remember is passing away,” the club said.
A condolence to which the Basketball Federation of the Valencian Communitywho presented his condolences to the family and all the members of Turís for “accompanying them in these difficult times”. Something that the company where he worked, Gonvarri Industries, also expressed, joining in the pain of his wife and children. “Your colleagues are devastated, we have lost a unique and endearing human being, there are no words to express or console those of us who shared good times with you,” they emphasize.
Meanwhile, his wife has continued to thank him for the expressions of affection that have reached him in recent days. Photos, memories and messages that he shared on his social networks, which have become a tribute museum to Jorge. Paellas, outings planned like a cruise, your children’s soccer matches, going down the falla… “I hope I made you happy all this time, 23 years together. “I promise you will be proud of us,” his wife wrote.
207 dead
A total of 207 deceased people have been registered at the morgue of the City of Justice of Valencia since the start of DANA until 8 p.m. last Thursday, according to the latest update of figures from the Data Integration Center (CID) .
Among them, Autopsies have already been carried out on 200. Of the total number of deceased persons, 167 are fully identified (140 by fingerprints and another 27 by DNA), while 54 deceased persons remain unidentified. Furthermore, the ante mortem offices, set up by the National Police and the Civil Guard in collaboration with forensic doctors, count 78 active cases following reports of disappearance.
The two parameters, active disappearances and the total number of deaths, are different and should therefore under no circumstances be added together, the CID said. Thus, active disappearance files may increase or decrease depending on new identifications that may occur among existing deceased persons, the increase in reports of disappearances or the location of living people.
