Around 66.6% of the inhabitants of the Swiss city of Basel voted in favor of financing Eurovision 2025 in their city. The issue was raised within the framework of the traditional referendum of the Swiss cantons, reports the RTS portal.
This involves the allocation of some 39 million euros for the celebration of Eurovision at the initiative of the local Federal Democratic Union (UDF) party.
“The inhabitants of Basel massively approved, with 66.57%, the canton’s loan to Swiss Radio and Television for the organization of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). Participation in the elections was 57.15%.” – says the publication.

In June this year, Zurich submitted its bid to host the song contest. Local authorities stated that this city is ideal to host a large-scale international competition: it has the necessary transport infrastructure and also a modern venue for its holding. The city council planned to raise funds for the event through a framework loan of 20 million pounds (about $22.2 million).
