Earlier, the detection of traces of uranium particles at two Iranian nuclear facilities by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) may be linked to a sabotage operation.
Oku.Az IRNA reported on this.
“Iran has explained the possible reasons for the detection of uranium particles at these facilities. Considering that Iran has not yet been able to find the technical reason for the presence of uranium particles, it is likely that the contamination of these sites was caused by foreign agents. Elements such as sabotage or intentional damage are logical,” Mohsen Naziri Asl, Iran’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, said at the IAEA Governing Board meeting.
The diplomat added that Tehran has accepted the accreditation of 14 new IAEA inspectors in the Islamic Republic. Since May 2024, 130 people have been allowed to work in Iran.
It should be recalled that on June 3, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the agency had not received precise explanations from Tehran regarding the detection of traces of “anthropogenic” uranium at Iran’s nuclear facilities in Varamin and Turkuzabad. Following Grossi’s statement, the IAEA Governing Council adopted the draft resolution prepared by Great Britain, Germany and France. In this resolution, it called on Tehran to explain the origin of the traces of uranium and demanded that the agency’s inspectors be allowed to be present. Russia and China described the resolution as politicized.
