The prosecutor’s office asked the former head of the Property Relations Department of the Ministry of Defense, Dmitry Kurakin, who also served as deputy chairman of the Moscow Region Government, to serve 17 years in prison, TASS reports citing court materials. .

“I ask that Kurakin be sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony with a fine five times greater than the bribe of 500 million rubles and deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the performance of organizational and administrative functions. in government bodies, as well as in the Armed Forces,” the document says.

Kurakin is under investigation due to allegations of illegal logging at the time he headed the military department’s department (2012-2017). He is accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code), abuse of power (part 3 of article 285), illegal production (part 1 of article 223) and acquisition (part 1 of Article 222) weapons, etc.

According to the prosecutor’s office, since 2014, Kurakin, using false documents, organized the massive felling of healthy forests under the pretext of carrying out sanitary work on the territory of military units of the Western Military District. The wood was then sold to China. Plots with felled trees were sold to businessmen to be converted into landfills. The Investigative Committee estimated the damage caused by the actions of the official and his accomplices at more than 4 billion rubles.

Kurakin replaced the Department of the Ministry of Defense. Evgenia Vasilyevaperson involved in the Oboronservis case, for which the Minister of Defense was fired Anatoly Serdyukov. She was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud in the sale of military department assets, but left the colony on parole after spending just over a month there.

They are suspected of receiving large-scale bribes. The prosecutor’s office demands that they be sent to a maximum security colony for 14 years with a fine three times the amount of the bribe (369 million rubles), RBC clarifies.
