National Court Judge José Luis Calama sent for trial Angel Ronformer president of People’s Bankto the 12 directors of the entity, now bankrupt, and to the auditor PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
He imposed a bail on everyone which amounts to a total of almost three billion euros.
The magistrate issued an order in which he accepted the opening of an oral trial and attributed to Ron, the penultimate president of Popular before its bankruptcy, the alleged crimes of defrauding investors and false accounting.
Today, Calama refuses to open oral proceedings against Banco Santander as a lucrative participant. This entity, when Popular went bankrupt in 2017, acquired it for one euro and a subsequent capital increase.
