Major General Nizami Mammadov, former head of the Finance and Budget Department of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Jalal Kazimov, former head of the Financial Service of the Air Force, Bayram Bayramov, former head of the Financial Department of the Ground Forces, and Vusal Alizade, former head of the Navy Financial Service, were arrested for embezzlement and the judicial process continued.
According to “Report”, the judge of the Baku military court, chaired by Fikret Aliyev, announced that he had received a response to the request addressed to the investigative body for compensation for damage.
In the response of the investigative body, it was noted that in total 38,664,000 manats were paid in damages in connection with the embezzlement of 143 million manats in the case:
“Nizami Mammadov, a defendant in the case, paid 12,203,000 manats, Vusal Alizade 101,000 manats and Jalal Kazimov 110,000 manats in damages to the state budget. In addition, all defendants in the case were arrested to pay damages to their assets.”
General Nizami Mammadov’s lawyer, Rashad Mirmehdizade, said that Akif Umudov, who was questioned as a witness in the case and a former accountant at the Department of Finance and Budget, paid 210,000 manats in damages on behalf of Nizami Mammadov:
“He also claimed during the trial that he paid damages on behalf of Nizami Mammadov. However, the investigative body did not calculate those damages. We request that this payment be calculated.”
It was announced that the judicial investigation into the case has concluded.
The floor was given to the prosecutor, who asked for time to speak.
The trial will continue on November 22.
It should be noted that the former head of the Department of Finance and Budget of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Nizami Mammadov, the former head of the Financial Service of the Air Force, Colonel Jalal Kazimov, the former head of the financial department of the Ground Forces Bayram Bayramov, the former head of the financial service of the Navy Vusal Alizadeh, the former head of the Procurement and Supply Department of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Mahir Shirvanov, as well as the former head of the Procurement and Supply Department of the Ministry Malikmammad Gurbanov, former head of the housing and operations department of the Ministry, Colonel Fikret Mirzayev, were detained as a result of a special operation carried out by the State Security Service.
The defendants are accused of embezzling money from the state budget.
It should be noted that the total damage caused to the State in the criminal case is 143 million manats. The criminal cases were referred to the courts for consideration in separate proceedings.
The Ministry of Finance was recognized as a victim in the criminal case. Each of the defendants was charged with article 179.4 of the Criminal Code (especially embezzlement by causing significant damage).
