the keys to a confession that shook politics

The statement by the commissioner responsible for the Koldo-Ábalos case has an impact on Spanish politics. Before the judge, Victor de Aldama activated the fan with his accusations of corruption. This Thursday he made very serious accusations against José Luis Ábalos, former minister and trusted person of Pedro Sánchez within the party and the government. He also remarked to his advisor, Koldo Garcia. He said they asked him for so much money that he even told them: “I’m not the Bank of Spain.”

The land commissioner described three types of payments. The first type would be commissions. He assured that Ábalos received a total of 400,000 euros and Koldo 200,000. Among them, more than half would come from commissions from the sale of masks in the midst of a pandemic. These payments were always made in cash and, in some cases, they were allegedly made to the Ministry of Transport itself.

The second type of payment described by Aldama is a classic of national corruption: brick. According to Aldama, Koldo asked him to make arrangements to buy a house for Ábalos and his family, and that is why he acquired the famous chalet in Cádiz. The former socialist minister, as the UCO also specifies in its report, demanded very specific requirements: that it be furnished and that the owners leave the piano they owned to their son so that he can play it .

But for his partner, he achieved another payment in kind: the apartment of Jessica, the woman the UCO described in its report as “alleged couple” of the former minister. Aldama assured that it was she who chose the apartment which then paid for the land. It’s not just any apartment, it’s a house located in Plaza de España, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Madrid.

The agent said he stopped paying because Ábalos was tired and Jessica came to threaten him. But, like all of the above, we don’t know if it’s true or a lie. At present, there is no way to prove the commissioner’s accusations.

Although Aldama spoke a lot on Thursday, there is currently no proof of the information he gave. And that is precisely what José Luis Ábalos clung to. In a press release published this Thursday afternoon He denied everything and accused Aldama of defaming him. Although this very evening, upon his release from prison, Aldama assured, in reference to Pedro Sánchez, that “if he wants that much evidence, don’t worry, he will have it”.
