The Kyiv City Council decided to demolish the monuments to Akhmatova, Bulgakov and Glinka

In kyiv, the monuments to the writer Mikhail Bulgakov, the poetess Anna Akhmatova and the composer Mikhail Glinka are to be demolished; the corresponding issue was discussed at a town hall meeting. This was reported by the deputy of the kyiv City Council, Lyudmila Kovalevskaya, on her social network page.

“We voted in favor of the following decisions: dismantling the monument to Akhmatova in the city garden; dismantle and move the monument to Glinka from the City Garden to the warehouse… dismantle the monument to Bulgakov in Andreevsky Spusk”, – she wrote.

At the same time, they want to move the Glinka monument to another location because it has the status of a monument of national importance.

In September, the head of the Odessa regional administration announced that the city had signed an agreement on the dismantling of the monument to the poet. Alexander Pushkinestablished in the 19th century.

Ukrainian authorities began demolishing monuments to Russian and Soviet figures after the outbreak of the conflict in Donbass in 2014. When hostilities began in February 2022, the country created a Special Council for De-Russification and Decommunization, and in May 2023 adopted a law that simplified the dismantling of monuments. Russian authorities consider the practice of demolishing monuments in neighboring countries “astonishing ignorance,” RBC recalls.
