The “la Caixa” Foundation increases its budget for social action in the Balearic Islands to 16 million in 2024

The President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohensand the president of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Isidro Fainésigned this Friday in Palma the framework agreement which governs collaboration between the two institutions in social, cultural, educational and research matters. Under this agreement, the “la Caixa” Foundation brings total investment in social action to 16 million euros which takes place in the Balearic Islands throughout 2024which represents an increase of one million euros compared to the previous year.

“The “la Caixa” Foundation has increased its efforts in 2024 to help more people on the Islands, a territory that is very dear to us, where we also have our headquarters. Our goal as a Foundation is provide the appropriate tools for people to develop their potential and overcome adversity. This work is only possible thanks to the collaboration carried out with the social entities of this territory and responds to the mission that we have had since our origins: to build a “a better and fairer society that gives more opportunities to those who need them most”explained Isidro Fainé.

For her part, the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, celebrated the collaboration between the two institutions and highlighted the importance of this agreement to continue working on key projects for the Balearic Islands in terms of social action, culture, education and research.

Among the fundamental objectives set out in the agreement are the fight against child povertythe promotion of age active and healthytreat people with advanced illnesses, as well as improve the working and living conditions of people with disabilities or those at risk of exclusion. In addition to these lines of action, the agreement also envisages actions in the fields of education, culture and research.

Some of the priority projects that demonstrate the entity’s commitment to the archipelago, with particular attention to activities carried out in the area of ​​poverty and social action, are:

CaixaProinfanciaone of the Foundation’s strategic programs, developed in different areas of Palma, Inca and Manacor with the aim of fight against child poverty. This initiative is aimed at children and adolescents between 0 and 18 years old, whose families are in a situation or at risk of exclusion. In 2023, this program has served more than 1,874 boys and girls and 1,320 families.

THE investment projectsamong which stands out the Embed Programthey aim encourage the hiring of groups in greater difficulty to find a job. Throughout 2023, a total of 899 jobs were created in the Balearic Islands thanks to the collaboration of 373 companies. There are 17 social entities responsible for developing this program in the Islands.

The program for Comprehensive care for people with advanced illnesses aims to improve the quality of care for people at the end of life, as well as for their families. This program has served more than 640 patients and almost 1,000 members of their families in 2023 thanks to the work of a psychosocial care team that operates in 4 hospitals and 5 nursing homes in Mallorca.

He Seniors Program It encourages the social participation of older people with the aim of claiming the value of their experience and positioning them as active protagonists of society. This project gives you the opportunity to train in cultural, social and new technology projects. More than 23,580 seniors from the Balearic Islands have participated in the nearly 750 activities offered in the 22 centers in which it takes place.

As for the Calls for social projectsin 2023 the Foundation increased its investment to exceed the million eurosintended for 40 projects of Balearic entities.

On the other hand, the CaixaBank branch networkthanks to the help of the “la Caixa” Foundation, promotes projects and activities in its immediate environment in the social, cultural and educational fields. Throughout 2023, 168 of these grants were awarded, with an investment of 700,000 euros from the Foundation.

THE socio-professional integration of people deprived of liberty through the program Restoregranting scholarships and supporting biomedical research are also notable objectives on which the “la Caixa” Foundation focuses its efforts in this community.

More than 180,000 visitors to CaixaForum Palma

In the field of cultural dissemination, the “la Caixa” Foundation promotes individual and collective development through the exhibitions and activities it programs at CaixaForum Palma and traveling exhibitions.

CaixaForum Palma received 183,609 visitors throughout 2023. Last year’s exhibitions included Cinema and fashion. By Jean-Paul Gaultier, Homo Ludens. Video games to understand the present; Silly Symphony; and The human image: art, identities and symbolism.
