The largest canoe in its history arrives in Gran Canaria with 231 people on board, including 58 minors, after 11 days at sea

Gran Canaria has received in recent hours the largest canoe in its history with 231 people on board, including 58 minors. Immigrants, of sub-Saharan origin, claim to have left Gambia a long time ago eleven days. Emergency services offered these people first aid as soon as they arrived on the island.

Some members of the expedition, the largest arrival to date in Gran Canaria in one boatalso claimed to be, in addition to Gambia, from Senegal, Mali and Guinea.

On their arrival on land, by their own means, these people received humanitarian and health aid and three of them were evacuated to hospital centers for presenting minor pathologies linked to their sea crossing from Africa, as reported by Efe by 112.

The Red Cross, for its part, explained that it is the largest canoe to date arrived in Gran Canaria, but not in the Canary Islands, since in Iron Last year, there were some with more than 250 occupants and even one of 330 people.

After being alerted that a boat carrying migrants was sailing near the coast, more precisely 5.5 kilometers from Arguineguina maritime rescue ship, the Salvamar Macondo, left that Sunday afternoon to help, although the canoe was able to land if it helped.
