He had no criminal record, but they had been following him for months. Last Tuesday, National Police officers arrested a drug trafficker from the Galician region of O Salnés who led a criminal group capable of distributing, according to investigators’ calculations, a month about 15 kilos of cocaine and another 50 kilos of hashish.
The coup was carried out by Group II of the Drugs and Organized Crime Unit (Udyco) of the National Police of Pontevedra, supervised by the Instruction Court number 2 of Caldas de Reis (Pontevedra). On Tuesday morning, Udyco agents carried out a total of four entries and searches in the municipalities of Portas and Ribadumia (Pontevedra), but also in the municipality of Lugo, Monterroso. In the operation, They seized seven kilos of cocaine and 18 kilos of hashish. In addition, just over 140,000 euros in cash, three vehicles, several mobile phones and various documents deemed of interest to the investigation were seized.
Investigative sources told ABC that the alleged leader of the group has been involved in drug trafficking for years and that He was on the police radar, but had no criminal record. This is what is called in police jargon a “white blackbird”, he had never fallen.
Ribadumia and Portas
The agents scrutinized two addresses linked to the alleged leader, one in the town hall of Portas and the other in Ribadumia. It was at this point that, as investigative sources explained to this newspaper, the National Police officers found the drugs as well as most of the 140,000 euros in cash seized.
The other three detainees were apparently customers and at the same time, the principal’s collaborators were arrestedSpecifically, they are two residents of Monterroso and a third from Ribadumia, although the latter was detained at the home of a relative in the city of Pontevedra.
The criminal group, led by the alleged ringleader, operated as a “wholesaler”, that is, it acted as a intermediary between large organizations and other smaller ones dedicated to small-scale traffic and retail. He allegedly had access to large organizations that transported narcotic substances from the countries of origin and then distributed them to other traffickers working in the retail trade.
In this sense, both the cocaine and the hashish they were supplied with followed the most common import circuits: cocaine arriving on the Galician coast by sea, and hashish from Andalusia, transported by road through Portugal. According to the sources of the investigation, the disparate group did not move large quantities at a time, but did so regularly and quickly. Moreover, according to these sources, they distributed themselves both in bulk (kilos) and retail (grams).
