The left faction of the European Parliament has published a draft resolution calling on all parties in Georgia to recognize the October 26 elections and overcome the polarization of society.
The draft also contains a call to the EU on the need to resume a focused dialogue with Georgia on European integration and maintaining a visa-free regime.
The left, furthermore, does not support the decision of the European Council to suspend financial aid to Georgia.
The faction also drew attention to the OSCE/ODIHR report, which stated that “the general legal framework in Georgia provides an adequate basis for holding democratic elections,” that voters were offered a wide variety of options, and that The parties were free to carry out their campaigns.
However, the draft indicates the concern of European structures about the Georgian government’s adoption of laws on foreign agents and family values.
The left faction in the European Parliament also called on Georgia and Russia to continue peaceful dialogue.
“We take note of the statements of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference at the UN General Assembly in New York and the corresponding willingness of Georgian officials to resolve outstanding issues through peaceful and diplomatic means. “We call on both sides to take serious initiatives in this direction.” – says the draft resolution of European parliamentarians.
