The mayor of Manzanares El Real, José Luís Labrador (PSOE), presented his resignation this Monday and handed in the minutes as councilor. Labrador alleges, in a letter addressed to citizens, health problems and “political tensions” as reasons to justify his resignation from his post as mayor after more than 5 years in office. The mayor has explained so far that the main reason for his resignation was health: “After a mentally difficult period for me, I decided to slow down to think and not fall into decisions that I will not be able to make. manage.” .
However, Labrador recognizes that he was also influenced by the “complex political situation” that the city is going through, after the breakup of the left-wing government coalition (Más Madrid, Podemos and PSOE) last June which allowed him to revalidate the post even if it was the PP which won the elections.
In the letter, he explains that it was he himself who decided to withdraw confidence from advisors who were not from his party due to “lack of confidence”. In addition, he assures that he decided to break the coalition because “it only harmed” the functioning of Manzanares El Real.
Labrador also explained that in recent weeks he had explored agreements with the Popular Party but that it had not been possible to reach an agreement due to the “lack of agreement between the two main parties in Madrid, the PP and the PSOE”.
The former mayor took advantage of the letter to reaffirm his support for Juan Lobato’s project as secretary general of the PSOE of the Community of Madrid and assured that he remained a “convinced social democrat”. Labrador ends the letter by wishing the new government team good luck.
