Valencia recently suffered violent flash floods which caused over 200 deaths, many missing, flooding of many homes and businesses and much suffering. Bridges collapsed, streets became rivers of muddy water with floating cars pushed around like toys. People were stuck in their homes and cars for hours. Many died, but others were rescued. Everyone has been shocked by the scale of the disaster and will need time to recover from this tragedy.

The epicenter of the flooding was highland towns near Valencia, such as Utiel and Chiva, and those lower down, along the normally dry canals that became roaring rivers south of Valencia, such as Paiporta, Catarroja and Benetuser. The city of Valencia itself was not flooded due to the diversion of the Túria River, after the floods of 1957.
