Kings never tell their stories. In The thousand and one nights They only do it when they fall from grace. For a king, breaking with tradition is already unique in itself. Juan Carlos I decided to publish his memoirs, contrary to his father’s recommendations: “My father always advised me not to write memoirs. “Kings do not confess, much less publicly,” he explains in the book.
The memoirs of Juan Carlos I will be published in early 2025 by a French publishing house, with Laurence Debray as ghostwriter. He decided to tell his story and that means two things. We already knew the first: he is a fallen king. The second is a little more complex.
